IMPLANTS, PROTOCOLS IN IMPLANT DENTISTRY
Types of protocols:
A great deal of misinformation exists regarding the time you have to wait for the prosthesis following implant placement. This section will inform you about the various possibilities currently available.
- 2º Abbreviated Protocol: Research into the osseointegration process, along with newly-developed technologies, have made it possible to shorten the waiting period, and the connection takes place after three months. The total treatment time is about 4 months and the number of operations, two.
- 3º Early Loading Protocol: Nowadays, the standard and abbreviated protocols are used only in patients with very low bone density. In a significant number of the treatments an early loading protocol is used. In this protocol the implants are put in place and connected in a single operation, and the patient is sent to the dentist to make the permanent teeth after 6 to 8 weeks. The total time for finishing the prosthesis is from 2 to 3 months and the number of operations, one.
- 4º SAFE protocol for teeth on the same day:
Clínica Sicilia has been one of the most pioneering centres in Europe in applying this protocol.
Science and technology allow us to put in place the prosthesis (a provisional surgical prosthesis) when the operation takes place. This technique cannot be used with all patients. There has to be a correct diagnosis of the requisites that the patient must fulfil and the procedure must be performed by a specialized team with experience. The total time until the prosthesis is put in place ranges from two to four hours and the number of operations, one.
Requisites that the patient must fulfil:- Good general and mental health.
- Good mouth health or edentulous.
- Good bone availability.
- Collaborative attitude.
- Preferably a non-smoker.
-
5º Teeth in an Hour® Protocol and MED-3D protocol .
For the most discriminating patients, 3D evaluation technology enables virtual implant surgery and the preparation of a permanent fixed prosthesis prior to operating. These techniques, like the one described above, cannot be applied indiscriminately and the requirements set forth above must be met here as well. The total timeuntil the prosthesis is put in place is less than an hour and the intervention does not involve surgery (no incisions or sutures). After the procedure, patients will have recovered their smile and their teeth in less than an hour.
