INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS
Professor Dr. Alberto Sicilia explains the latest computer guided dental implant techniques.
Dr. Sicilia was the only Spanish speaker at the SimPlant Academy International Conference held in Barcelona (Spain) in May 2006. At the Conference, professionals from 14 countries presented the latest techniques in computer guided implantology. As a pioneer in Europe in the field, Dr. Sicilia gave a presentation on minimally invasive microsurgery. |

CLINICA SICILIA is the first centre in Europe that specializes in computer-guided implant surgery.
Throughout its history, Clínica Sicilia has been characterized by its pursuit of innovation. Since it was created in 1986 it has been at the forefront of dental implant treatment. In 1995, we developed a complete digital image and radiology system, setting up one of the first digital orthopantomographs in Spain. In 1997, it became one of the first centres in Europe to apply microsurgical techniques, installing two complete units of microsurgery equipment. In the year 2000, the clinics of our group were the first dental clinics in Spain to develop and obtain the UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2000 quality certification, and in the 2003-2005 period we have made a priority of computer-guided surgery, currently being the only centre in Spain to have installed three distinct and complementary protocols; the SAFE protocol (Materialise, Louvain, Belgium), the "Teeth in an Hour" TIAH protocol (NobelBiocare, Gothenburg, Sweden) and the MED-3D protocol (Med-3D Implantology, Zurich, Switzerland). The recent installation of a latest-generation CAT system specifically for maxillary scans (i-Cat) , allows us to integrate data capture, processing and virtual diagnosis based on the most complete programmes on the market, the creation of surgical templates and computer-guided adaptation of prostheses and the implementation of minimally-invasive microsurgical techniques for the placement of implants and teeth. With these capacities, in most cases techniques can be associated in such a way that everything can be done in a single, non-surgical intervention (with no incisions or sutures). |
